This limited edition artist book was produced to extend ideas related to Jennifer Gordon’s studio practice as a painter. She chose the circle as a matrix and recurring motif. She proposes, “Circles inscribe duality. Geometrically speaking, they are perfect wholes, immutable. As a closed curve, a circle does not whether it grows or shrinks. It is charged with constancy and it has always been associated with movement.”
There are three passages, each introduced by some text. The first looks at matter (domestic articles, the earth) viewed in perceptual terms, and later, in semantic modes. The second passage imagines collective origins in engulfing space, and the individual longing body in close proximity. The last passage deals with water: remembered childhood seas; dreamed and fabricated waters which soothe, puzzle or agitate.
