Accelerated Logic is a printed, laser die-cut orange acrylic stencil containing annotations made by the artist to page 11 of John Berger’s Ways of Seeing. The annotations select, highlight, as well as censor the still-in-print publication. Mirroring the mass production of the available book, the work considers the possible multiplication of a personal perspective through the function of the stencil.
Ryan Gander OBE is a British multi media artist interested in using associative thought process to connect the everyday and the esoteric, the overlooked and the commonplace. In utilizing a central theme of absence, Gander invites the viewer into the potential narrative possibilities of his work, enabling the artist to explore ideas relating to the conditions of art production and the cognitive process of its subsequent perception. Ryan Gander’s work has been shown internationally at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, the Guggenheim, New York, Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art, San Francisco, and the Venice Biennale, Italy. Gander’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Tate Gallery, London, MCA Chicago, and the Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna, among others. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious prizes including the Dutch Prix de Rome for sculpture (2003) and the Zürich Art Prize (2009). In 2017, Gander was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to contemporary art.
