Boiled Hippo is a neo-psychedelic rock band based in Beijing. Influenced by psychedelic rock, Krautrock, noise rock and other styles, the band was active in the underground music scene of Beijing from 2015 to 2016. But within a short time, the original drummer quit and thus the band was suspended. In mid-2017, the band started up again.

The two recordings on the new EP, titled Mystery and The River, were two pieces of psychedelic impromptu recorded in 2016 by 3 of the members after the drummer quit. Boiled Hippo, with a brand new line-up of 4 after replacing the drummer, changed its style from classic psychedelic to a more exotic neo-psychedelic rock. With novel techniques and a maverick style, they stand out among the new generation of musicians.
