The work of photographer Sadie Cornette Cook is the subject of this issue of MATTE Magazine, a periodical with a specific interest in queer issues, and often dedicated to one artist per publication. Cornette Cook, an American artist, presents a body of work divided into three chapters, with the majority of photographs being shot in black-and-white, bar three. Light and texture are integral elements to each of the artist’s images, whether taking a leaf, the backside of a pig, or a human mouth as subject matter.
The qualities of intimacy, interiority, and reflection within Cornette Cook’s work are equally present in “GIVING LIFE BACK,” the poem by Rachel Stewart that closes this issue.
MATTE Magazine is a platform for new ideas in photography edited and published since 2010 by Matthew Leifheit.
