Alphabet is an offset-printed edition by artist Caitlin Keogh, produced on the occasion of Printed Matter’s participation in Art Basel Miami 2019. Keogh’s artwork often takes inspiration from textile designs, technical drawings, commercial illustration, and mass-market iterations of Surrealism found in fashion and design. This new work depicts a vividly incised alphabet in a typeface designed by the artist in collaboration with the poet Charity Coleman. The letterforms are stylized after a font designed by William Morris for Kelmscott Press. Layered among the letters are blue glass marbles, animated insects, and a detailed diagram showing the workings of the human kidney filtration system.
