Boyfriend.dick is the queer Brooklyn-based artist and admin who runs the popular Instagram meme page by the same name. Self-described as “spiritualized faggotry” and “unhinged queerness,” @boyfriend.dick started as finsta before transitioning to a public meme page in 2019. The page has recently expanded into a cultural hub through the opening of a Discord page where queers from around the world exchange memes, hentai, advice, nudes, and more.
The Boyfriend.dick Tarot Deck is his latest project. It’s a modern take on the long-standing, esoteric tradition of tarot, using internet culture references for its archetypes: The Troll, The Influencer, The Shadowban, to name a few. The found images that make up this deck were collected over the past year through different social platforms, then chosen to represent the specific meaning of each card. The imagery feels as familiar as it is mysterious, ranging from liminal to cursed, inspiring to unsettling. By using the language of memes the deck feels accessible to both beginner and advanced Tarot readers alike. When pulled in a tarot reading, each image can be seen as a “big mood,” evoking a relatable or liminal feeling that points to the meaning of the card.
