Our Porcelain as Expression zine is beautifully designed by Gentle Oriental, written by Vivian Sangsukwirasathien and Mei Lum, and riso-printed by Lucky Risograph sharing W.O.W.‘s history through our beloved porcelain patterns and the power and significance that Chinese porcelain and ceramics have for artistic expression in our daily lives. This is W.O.W.’s porcelain bible — breaking down the meaning and symbolism of so many of the hand-painted motifs and patterns that make up our eclectic porcelain collection.
Wing On Wo & Co. (W.O.W.) is the oldest operating store in Manhattan’s Chinatown, boasting a five-generation long legacy since 1890. Since the 5th generation owner, Mei Lum, began to take on operations of the ship in 2016, W.O.W. has continued to breathe new life into its porcelain collection. With the help of her best friend and W.O.W.’s direction of product, Nate Brown, Mei is honoring her grandmother’s sourcing journey in Hong Kong as well as bringing in new work from China’s porcelain capital, Jingdezhen.
