Detective Show
Detective Show maps the conception and creation of a unique immersive outdoor urban art event, organised by artist John Fekner in Jackson Heights, Queens, NYC in 1978. Contributors included numerous acclaimed artists, including Don Leicht, Richard Artschwager and Gordon Matta-Clark among others.
Taking place long before contemporary urban art festivals, Detective Show was a new way of understanding art within public spaces, a sentiment to which this limited-edition book pays firm tribute. Notably, many contemporary ‘street art’ event organisers view the Detective Show as a prototype, one which paved the way for what we now have come to know as ‘mural festivals’.
The 84-page book boasts lovingly-printed original photographs, written contributions from participating artists and forewords from both renowned American culture critic Carlo McCormick and Fekner himself.
