Libro que espera su edición (Book awaiting publication) published in January 2022 by Salomé Moltó and Floreal Rodríguez de la Paz, describes the process of construction of the monument in the vicinity of the Albatera concentration camp, where thousands of people were interned.
This camp was one of the harshest during Franco’s regime. The importance of this document in book form (produced in 1995 and published in facsimile form under the care of Lorenzo Sandoval), on the one hand, comes from a time when historical memory was still approached in a timid way.
On the other hand, the relevance of the publication comes from its inscription in a time when there was a constant deconstruction of the logic of the monument from the sphere of art in the nineties. In those moments of questioning of public art designed from positions of power, the CNT (National Confederation of Labour) constructed a monument from below charged with meaning, as well as developing a series of activities around it, what today we would call a discursive program. In this program, they brought together survivors of the camp, poets, writers and a vast majority of people from the village to recover the memory of the victims in an exercise of collective memory writing. -Publisher
