“Art dealer for the sensitive thug.”
These few words form a kind of pun that catches attention and reminds us that art is a gentle drug for the souls, even the most apathetic ones!
The Art Bags are crafted in Togo, West Africa, using the traditional fabric known as gangan. Made from natural cotton fibers, gangan is commonly employed for natural dyeing processes.
Expressing our thoughts on this noble fabric is a particular publication procedure to which we pay close attention. Similar to paper, the fabric becomes a medium through which we manifest our artistic practice, serving as a prism providing access to a wealth of knowledge content.
Indeed, through textile printing, we aim to highlight a form of writing in motion. We make our writings mobile, both through the kinetics of the medium and its functionality: as the bag is inherently a transportation object.
This entails updating the use of this traditional fabric and transforming it into a medium for artistic publications akin to an artists’ book. Here, the sewn object becomes a conceptual art piece, contributing to transport from time to time, a piece of tangible imagination. -Publisher
