Repetition, both in Frode Felipe Schjelderup’s choice of technique and subject matter, is fundamental to his practice. Schjelderup regularly draws inspiration from underground music and cult cinema. Another constant in his creative output is instinctive drawings of feline creatures, ranging from the naturalistic to the fantastical. Schjelderup’s cat drawings were originally done with a pen on postcards and are rarely seen presented altogether. Having been adopted as a child and subsequently diagnosed with autism and Tourette’s, the artist uses his work to engage with feelings of otherness while simultaneously showing in museums and galleries internationally.
Frode Felipe Schjelderup was born 1982 in Colombia. He lives and works in Stavanger, Norway. In 2022, the artist released his first major book Rock Portraits, and his drawings were included in the inaugural exhibition at The National Museum in Oslo, Norway. -Publisher
