Objektiv Press was founded in 2009 and began as a biannual journal of lens based art. After ten years of exploring this format, we transitioned into a more book-like publication, where we let just one writer fill the pages with their real and raw opinions, writing about different trends within the medium. Since 2020, we have been inviting different people—photographers, critics, curators—to reflect on their relationship with photography through a longer essay. We want to deepen our content and continue to explore the development and position of film and photography both in the art scene and in society.
Objektiv Press was founded and is run by Nina Strand. Ida Kierulf and Susanne Østby Sæther have been on the editorial board since the first issue. Brian Sholis and Lucas Blalock joined the board in 2016. Our releases can be ordered in our shop, or be found at Tronsmo in Oslo, all over Scandinavia and Europe via Antenne Books, and in the US thanks to Printed Matter.
We regularly organise pop-ups and participate in art book fairs and festivals. Our exhibitions include Subjektiv, curated by the editorial board, at Malmö Konsthall in 2017; Le Book Club at Fotogalleriet in 2020, co-curated by editor-in-chief Nina Strand; Søsterskap, co-curated for Les Rencontres d'Arles 2023, for which Objektiv Press published the accompanying book. -Objektiv Press
