The publication Archäologie der Instabilität / Unearthed Foundations by Christoph Brünggel is equally an artist’s book and a document of the artist’s working process. In his first publication published by the Aargauer Kuratorium in the series Primeur, the artist gives a first insight into his research. Divided into seven groups, more than 300 images collected over the last few years combine to produce associative effects and narrations of the topics and questions that occupy the artist in his work.
Sixteen full-page color images of works, installations and exhibition views are interspersed between the sequences of images. As a representation of the formulated works, they emerge from the background of research images.
A text by Daniel Morgenthaler—rich in allusions to research and work—accompanies the images in five parts through the book. Finally, a detailed appendix provides detailed information about the material used in the picture sequences and can also be read as a topic index of the artist’s oeuvre. —edition fink
