For the exhibition Dialog I, Karen Geyer and Renée Levi were each invited to explore the work of the other and to develop a joint presentation for the Kunsthalle Palazzo in Liestal. The artists have designed a room with four large chassis covered with semi-transparent cotton fabric. The format takes the smallest space and fills it completely. The picture frames leaned against the walls alter the spatial structure, altering or extending passageways or dividing a chamber. The result is a darkened room lit by cold LED lighting, in which the movements and shadows of both painting and music installations are enfolded.
For the present edition, the two artists have continued their collaboration beyond the exhibition and have chosen the classic format of a long-playing record. While Karen Geyer puts together a selection of sounds from the exhibition and recordings from the rooms of the Palazzo to form nine new pieces, Renée Levi has designed all 350 covers, working with a roller and black acrylic paint.
A picture booklet with twelve large-format exhibition photographs by Marcel Schmid and a leaflet with an introduction by Andrea Domesle complete the edition. —edition fink
