The Museum of Longing and Failure (MOLAF) — established in Bergen, Norway by artists Andrew Taggart and Chloe Lewis in 2010 — is a collecting entity that commissions, exhibits, archives, and reinterprets objects by artists.
Since 2015, the MOLAF has been making books as a means to reframe its operations through linguistic and graphic exercises. Here, in MOLAF Circumflexions, each text contains three sentences of twenty words or less, and each drawing is composed using three elements that repeat up to twenty times. This underlying structure reflects the numerical constraint given to artists when invited to create a sculptural work for the MOLAF’s collection — that their contribution measure 20 x 20 x 20 cm or smaller.
