Poesía Visual: Deisler, poemas visivos y proposiciones a realizar is the new reissue by Guillermo Deisler published by Naranja Publicaciones in its effort to reconstruct and return to circulation the book works that the artist made in Antofagasta between 1969 and 1973 within the framework of his publishing house “Ediciones Mimbre”.
The present reissue is published 50 years after the original edition, being the first one made by the artist in offset printing system with the support of the University of Chile and the Technical State University, Antofagasta in 1972. This facsimile reissue by Naranja Publicaciones is supported by the National Fund for Books and Reading Promotion, 2021.
The work, within the artist’s catalog, is a transition space in Deisler’s poetic language towards some languages that will persist in his later work, such as the use of collage and typographic assemblage. To these are added strategies used in works such as GRRR (1969) that will remain in later works, such as the “proposals to be made”, which are composed of material elements that seek to enable instances of active reading, through the proposition of various actions to be completed by the reader. As for the propositions that are proposed in “Poesía Visual: Deisler, poemas visivos y proposiciones a realizar”, there is an airmail envelope inserted in a page of the book where the author invites the reader to send him reflections; there is also a kraft paper box with the possibility of tearing it to dispose of the reader’s waste.
The present reissue adds an appendix with a text by Francisca García, who has studied Guillermo Deisler’s work for many years. In the text, García explores the international influences present in this work from the analysis of the title of the work, the result of Deisler’s participation in the mail art networks, alternative manifestations of the artistic practices of the second half of the 20th century of great relevance.
