Multicolor stone lithograph print by Uranian Phalanstery founder Dorothea Baer, from approximately
In this print, Baer exercises a more representational style than in some of her more recognizable work. Here, a person holds a snake, a symbol often found in Baer’s work, symbolizing both knowledge and a divine femininity.
This print, from approximately 1954, is unsigned and unnumbered. It is attributed to Baer as it has been housed in the Uranian Phalanstery since its inception, alongside Baer’s sketchbooks and other prints bearing similar symbology in a consistent style.
Condition notes: there are two small triangles punched out of the paper on the corners of the sheet, outside of the indent of the litho stone. The paper is warped, though sturdy; condition is visible in the second image.
