Printed Matter presents Trevor Shimizu’s Olaf, the artist’s first screen print, on the occasion of the 2024 NY Art Book Fair. From the artist: “About a year ago, we adopted Olaf, a Birman cat. He was malnourished and would jump onto the table and steal food from our plates. Today, he can barely jump.” Through his expansive exploration of video, sculpture, drawing, and painting, Shimizu presents a humorous and odd perspective on self-narrative and everyday interaction. In Olaf, within a scribbled, earth-tone landscape is the sudden appearance of an animal character that mischievously appears, disappears, and reappears across the frame.
