Original editions of artists books by Sol LeWitt, one facsimile reprint and a LeWitt tribute by Tom Sachs. LeWitt was among the first wave of conceptual artists who helped to establish a new radical framework for the publication-as-artwork, and his unique approach was elemental in realizing the possibilities of the medium. Drawn to the book’s qualities of structure, sequence and broad accessibility, LeWitt explored notions of seriality and permutation, seeing the page as a rich site for experimentations in line, color, and geometric forms. Later on, he explored the potentials of photographic images, which often took on a parallel approach in exhaustively documenting common objects and surroundings.
